Internal service header
A header for internal services, with no GOV.UK branding or crest
The internal service header shows users what service or system they are using. It can include navigation if needed.
When to use this component
Use this header for services or systems not on GOV.UK, such as internal and agent-facing services.
When to consider something else
If the service is hosted on a [name].service.gov.uk
domain it should use the GOV.UK Design System Header component.
Design goals and metrics
Because the standard GOV.UK header component cannot be used on internal services, there was a need for a standard basic header element that could be used instead. This would save designers time and also contribute to a consistent user experience across systems.
The design needed to:
- be easy to use for service users
- not use the GOV.UK crest or the GDS Transport typeface
- have the elements needed by internal services
