Make a declaration

How it works

The pattern consists of text and a primary action button. It does not include a checkbox or yes/no radios. See the Design History for the reasons behind this decision.

Declaration

The content of the declaration should be specific to the service, but should always be clear and concise. It should include information about what will happen if the user makes a false declaration.

Asking a user to formally state that the information they have given is true is called a ‘statement of truth’. There are good examples on the HM Courts and Tribunals Service design system backlog.

Action button

The text of the primary action button is very important. It should be different to the standard ‘Continue’ label as its purpose is to help users make a formal statement. It should be self-contained so that users can understand the action they are taking from just reading the button. For example, the action button could be labelled:

I agree - send my application
